It’s hard to deny that reading is an incredibly significant building block for learning. Everything spins off those 26 little letters. Whole worlds open up to a child who can read, expanding and engaging their minds and their outlook on life and, of course, providing hours of entertainment! Everyone knows the benefit of connecting with their children through reading and when a child successfully sounds out their first word, it’s a marvellous moment.
Sometimes the road to reading is not a smooth one. Sometimes, for a season, you may have a child who loathes reading, and The Reading Foundation has many one-to-one opportunities during the school year to turn this around. But avoid this by building a positive and solid foundation for your child’s reading journey and keep learning all summer.
The Reading Foundation has summer camps for children from ages 3 – 5 where they can begin to discover for themselves the joy of reading. Because it really is magical when those tiny squiggles on the page arrange themselves into a story for you to read!
Discover ABCs© Summer Camps:
For ages 3 – 5, the Discover ABCs© summer camp introduces letter sounds and names. In this fun, motivating, and engaging environment, kids will enjoy a variety of activities, including crafts, songs, games, and movement to help learn phonemic awareness. The camp also focuses on teaching correct pencil grip and printing, laying the foundation for spelling and other fine-motor activities, and also helps develop listening skills so the kids can follow directions. The camp runs from 9 am – 12 pm from June 18 – 22, July 3 – 6, July 9 – 13, August 7 – 10, and August 20 – 24, 2018.
Discover 123s© Summer Camps:
As the building blocks in arithmetic are also vital to a child’s success, The Reading Foundation offers a Discover 123s© summer camp for ages 4 – 5. This camp, which runs 9 am – 12 pm from August 27 – 31, 2018, introduces preschool and kindergarten children to basic math concepts in a fun, active and encouraging environment. They will discover math concepts like number recognition and basic computations through the use of multisensory activities, including crafts, songs, games, and movement. The camp also focuses on teaching correct pencil grip and printing of numbers and helps develop listening skills to follow directions.
The Reading Foundation is not a tutoring service, but a remedial clinic where students receive an experience that is more like educational therapy, thanks to the research-based, intentionally developed programs. The dynamic and individualized approach guides students to reach their highest educational potential.
Every parent wants their child to know the joy of knowledge and discovery for themselves, for they know that a lifetime of learning awaits!
