Have you ever wanted to travel back in time? It’s fascinating to get a glimpse of history, and that is exactly what Calgarians can do from August 26 – 27, 2023. The Military Museums invite you to join them at the Summer Skirmish as they bring almost 2000 years of warfare to life over one impressive weekend.
The Military Museums is an award-winning facility dedicated to representing Canada’s Army, Air Force, and Navy and educating the public, particularly youths, about Canada’s military. Here you will experience the victories, tragedies, and sacrifices of the men and women of the Canadian Forces. Walk through a First World War trench, learn about two of Canada’s famed tank units, and hear the stories of the people behind Canada’s military history.
The Summer Skirmish is an exciting event that happens outside the museums. Families can watch scripted battle re-enactments and demonstrations, and interact with all the participants, who will be dressed in period costumes and uniforms. Watch Viking raids and medieval duels. See gladiatorial combat and hear the thunder of musketry and cannonades. There will be many notable groups of well-known re-enactors attending this event. You’ll encounter the Yankee Valley Yankees Historical Society, the Lethbridge Medieval Club, and Strathcona’s Mounted Troop, plus lots more! It’s guaranteed to be a booming weekend at The Military Museums!
