Words, stories, and books are foundational in our society. But there are some people who cherish books and revere stories far more than the average person. They treasure the power of words like it’s the air they breathe. If you have a young writer in your household, you know what I’m talking about and you need to know about YouthWrite Summer Camps!

YouthWrite Summer Camps are about wordplay, writing, and creative expression. Participants will learn the craft of writing, not only the mechanics of language but also the power of a story, and they will have fun doing it! Instructors and supervisory staff work hard to create a safe, welcoming space for all kids, using a variety of learning styles. Youth will feel free to take artistic and creative risks while they find their voice.

Of course, YouthWrite Summer Camps are about writing. But you don’t want to stop there! A YouthWrite camp is so much more. Kids can meet other aspiring writers and build connections with kids who think as they do. Campers will be challenged and encouraged to explore new things they’ve never tried, like yoga and writing, drumming and words, songwriting, illustrating, cartooning, screenwriting, improvisation and writing, body percussion and words, and more. YouthWrite has a multi-disciplinary approach to writing and creating, in keeping with the advances of the 21st century. Not only will they be building skills in their passion, but they might learn something they never knew about themselves!

With the opportunity to work one-on-one at the Blue Pencil Café, enjoy evening guest performers, and be lulled to sleep by the traditional bedtime story, young writers will thrive. The skilled instructors represent the many facets of performing: visual, musical, dance, film, and written arts. Youth can perform at the Inklings and at the WordPlayful Wrap-up, too, and be amazed by the WordPlayful Players at the BEEG SHOW!

YouthWrite Summer Camps (Family Fun Calgary)

The YouthWrite Summer Camps take place at the FCJ Centre in southwest Calgary. You can choose between a day camp or an overnight camp, but even the day camps run from 8:30 am – 9 pm, so kids can leave their regular lives and families behind to enjoy a retreat, perfect for writing and wordplay.
