What should you do for summer fun in Saskatoon? Every summer, my family makes sure to add the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo to our bucket list. We love spending the day wandering around, visiting the zoo animals, exploring the beautiful gardens, and discovering the historic buildings. Saskatchewan’s only accredited zoo will bring smiles to families across the province and beyond. The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo is a distinctly Saskatchewan experience where people of all ages will enjoy the scenic surroundings and the unique stories of plants, animals, and prairie history all in one place. Whether you are visiting for the first time, bringing family members from out of town, or visiting for the hundredth time, a visit to the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo is an adventure in your own city that will bring a smile to everyone’s face and give you a memorable summer.

What Animals Will You Find at the Zoo?
Lenny, the ring-tailed lemur, just celebrated his second birthday in May, and after spending the winter in the Small Mammal House, Lenny is excited to return to the outdoor habitat with his parents, Lucy and Ringo.
If you stop by the Affinity Learning Centre, make sure to check out the two Gila monsters. They arrived at the zoo last year, and have become great animal ambassadors in the education program. They help visitors and students explore the fascinating world of venomous animals from the role of venom in nature to how scientists use venom in modern medicine.
Of course, a visit to the zoo this summer means a visit with Mistaya and Koda. Saskatoon’s two favourite grizzly bears have a dedicated animal care specialist assigned for approximately six hours each day. The specialist support the bears’ physical and mental well-being by focusing on enrichment and training. Enrichment activities are created and introduced throughout the day, and help create curiosity, engagement and problem-solving. Mistaya and Koda participate in short training sessions daily to support their care and provide opportunities for positive reinforcement.
Why do they have the daily programming and activities for the bears? It’s to encourage and showcase natural behaviours, including foraging, playing, swimming and resting. They intend to create a dynamic, stimulating environment that reflects aspects of what the bears would experience in the wild, while also supporting their health in a managed care setting.
There are over 40 species who can’t wait to meet your own little creatures! Find a complete list of animals here.
