The past is utterly fascinating. But it can also be wildly confusing to growing minds. On a recent field trip with my son’s grade 3 class, a few moms were informed we were from “olden times”. Sure many of us are turning 40 this year, but we certainly aren’t from the pioneer days. My own sons ask, on a much too frequent basis, questions such as “Mom were there cars when you were young?” or “Were movies just in black & white when you were little?” Clearly my 6 & 8 year olds’ grasp on historic timelines is an utter disaster. That’s why camps, such as the ones offered by the Burnaby Village Museum, help untangle the historical mess inside our little ones’ minds.

Through games, crafts, playing with historical toys, listening to stories, and thoroughly exploring the Burnaby Village Museum, Spring Break Camp participants will have a better understanding of what life in the 1920s was like. They will also come to realize that while mom & dad may look old, we weren’t alive 97 years ago (the year time stopped at the Burnaby Village Museum).

The Spring Break Heritage Adventure Camp is offered twice over the school break. Both weeks offer 5 days of activities & entertainment from 9am – 3pm. If life doesn’t enable you to pick up your child at 3pm, you are welcome to book them into the “After Camp Club”. The add-on program gives parents an additional 1.5 hours of supervision for their child. Children enrolled in the After Camp Club must be picked up by 4:30pm sharp (earlier is perfectly fine, later is not).

While the kids will make cookies during the Adventure Camp, all participants need to bring their own lunches every day. Pack extra snacks if your child is participating in the After Camp Club.
