Celebrate Easter at Britannia Mine Museum with a long weekend of discovery, adventure, and hands-on exploration! From April 3 – 6, visitors of all ages are invited to experience a special seasonal program featuring a unique underground train tour, a site-wide scavenger hunt, and interactive science experiences that bring the story of mining and minerals to life!
During Britannia Mine’s operating years, miners spent their days searching deep inside the mountain for valuable copper deposits. Now it’s your turn to step back in time and discover what that journey was like as you don a hard hat and board the underground train for a special Easter-themed tour. Along the way, visitors will help uncover clues about diamond drilling, the changing colours of copper minerals, and the tools miners used to explore the rock deep beneath the Britannia Mountain Range. At the end of the experience, explorers will receive a real mineral keepsake to remember their underground discovery.
Back on the surface, the adventure continued with a site-wide, self-led scavenger hunt across the museum grounds! Using a fun, crayon-rubbing technique, visitors will reveal clues hidden throughout the site. Explore the many exhibits within Britannia Mine Museum, from the Terra Lab to the Pavilion, and everywhere in between. Once all the clues are uncovered, follow the secret message to the final stop to claim a reward for your exceptional detective work! Be sure to visit the new Live in the Lab: Secret Identities experience, where curious explorers step into the role of an Assayer. Through hands-on mineral testing, blacklight experiments, and interactive tools, visitors will investigate hardness, streaks, and other hidden properties to uncover a mineral’s true identity.
No visit to Britannia Mine Museum would be complete without experiencing the award-winning BOOM! show, where the massive Mill No. 3 roars back to life in a thrilling, fully immersive presentation that recreates the power and energy of the historic copper processing mill. With so much to see and do, visitors can also stop by the Chatterbox Café to refuel and capture a photo beside the museum’s towering haul truck, which stands more than 20 feet tall and weighs over 800,000 pounds!
Easter at Britannia Mine Museum is packed with family-friendly fun and discovery, and all the special activities are included with regular admission! Bookings are now open; plan your Easter adventure at Britannia Mine Museum today.
