One of Calgary’s most beloved holiday traditions – Heritage Park’s Once Upon a Christmas – returns, running Saturdays and Sundays from November 25th through to December 23rd. Don’t miss this chance to spend a magical day in the Heritage Park Historical Village and Gasoline Alley Museum, participating in charming and scenic old-fashioned Christmas customs and traditions.
There’s so much to do during Once Upon a Christmas – wear your comfiest boots! Enjoy winter wagon rides, carol singing, and a visit with Old Saint Nick! You’ll also be able to take in gingerbread cookie decorating, children’s crafts, snow painting, a visit with reindeer, a Christmas train display, a live Christmas play in the Canmore Opera House, and much more. Maybe you’ll want to take a family picture in the vintage photo parlour. Many of the Historical Village’s family homes will open their doors to welcome you in from the cold so you can see how families spent Christmas during pioneer times, and you can enjoy Christmas carols throughout the park.
The shops in the Haskayne Mercantile Block will also be open if you want to shop for some special holiday gifts, and shops in the Village will have items not found in the other stores. Kids can shop under the supervision of helpful volunteers at the Kids Only Store in the village. They’ll be so excited to surprise you with something special under the tree. Don’t forget to swing by the candy store for a little advent treat!
Our family loves Once Upon a Christmas, as it takes us away from the rush and bustle of today, and helps us enjoy the best of Christmas, past and present.
