Through the badlands and among the hoodoos, in the coulees and the trees — this was a land where dinosaurs roamed. It’s easy to imagine prehistoric creatures around every corner in the Alberta Badlands, making it a fun and fascinating destination for families. Calgarians love to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, but there’s even more reason to spend a day in the Drumheller area this summer. Barney’s Adventure Park is open for the summer, giving families the perfect opportunity to unplug, explore, and PLAY!
Barney’s Adventure Park is Drumheller’s largest recreational destination, offering a wide range of activities. The Park opened in 2020. It’s located less than 2 hours from Calgary and only minutes from the Royal Tyrrell Museum. They offer RV parking and plenty of capacity for visitors. Plus, you’ll find loads of fun and activities for families of all ages!
The park showcases Drumheller’s prehistoric history and its coal mining and agriculture industries. Whether you’re soaking in a little history, jumping into adventure, or hoping for a family photo op with sunflowers or pumpkins, it’s a great family day! With over 30 attractions and interactive activities, there’s something to keep everyone entertained.
Outdoor Fun
An unforgettable adventure is waiting at Barney’s Adventure Park!
Burn some energy in Boomtown, a play area inspired by the mining history of the Drumheller Valley. Run, jump, swing, slide, and glide!
Then head to the Barnyard and celebrate the agricultural history of Alberta. Lose yourself in the corn maze (once it has time to grow!) and cheer on the piglets in Ol’ Ma Gilbert’s Pig Races. Of course, you’ll want to visit the goats, chickens, and sheep, too, and bring some pocket change to buy some animal feed! You can even say hi to Susie the highland cow, the newest addition to the barnyard bunch.
But don’t forget the dinosaurs! Head out for the animatronic dinosaur walk and let your imagination run wild. This is the prehistoric world brought to life.
After all that fun in the sun, you’ll want to cool down with Barney’s newest “Water Wars” attraction, an exciting water balloon battle game!
Barney’s is open from 9 AM – 5 PM, beginning June 14, 2025. While only open on weekends in June, they are open daily in July and August. You might even want to consider a Barney’s season pass. A season pass will give you unlimited admission, a 10% discount for all food services and the gift shop, and priority access to special events.
It’s time to hit the road and plan a stop at Barney’s Adventure Park! With a wide range of activities, like the pedal cart track, petting zoo, mega-slide, and the ropes course, all your family’s adventure seekers will enjoy an unforgettable experience!
