January can feel like the longest, darkest month, so let’s make winter the time to focus on things that can enhance our sense of well-being and contentment. Things like reading a good book together, while snuggled in a blanket, a cup of hot cocoa, and the satisfaction that comes from music! Music is a positive, universal human experience, and learning to create our own music offers benefits that are wide-spread and long-lasting. Music can make you happier, lower stress, enhance coordination, and improve cognitive skills. Begin or continue your family’s musical journey with the Chinook School of Music this winter.
Chinook School of Music, established in 2002, offers a fresh, modern approach to music education that integrates the scientific research supporting the positive role that music has on brain development. One of its flagship programs is Music Kids. Music Kids is an early childhood music program for young children under 6 years that realizes the advantage of the modern approach. The children are taught by teachers who have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Performance and who bring a refined level of expertise. Students explore fundamental music skills while socializing, playing, and learning in class. For the winter of 2021, you’ll find more class time options for parents, small class sizes to ensure safety, and loads of fun! A 10-week session is $199 per student.
New for 2021, is Music Kids in your home! This is a wonderful option to bring fun and joy to your house for a safe and private approach to group learning during COVID-19. Gather a group of friends and Chinook will send an instructor and custom-designed Music Kids at Home class program to you. Groups with specialized health concerns, families with multiple children under age 5, friend bubbles, and day homes with 8 or fewer children will love this option.
If you have older children, they can find great satisfaction with one of the many group programs at Chinook School of Music.
Kids ages 6 – 9 years can join Musical Theatre, which is a great way to explore singing, acting, staging, and performing. Small class sizes will lead to maximum fun!
The most popular group class at CSM is Beginner Ukulele for ages 5 – 7 and 8 – 10. Beginner Ukulele classes give students a great foundation for playing. Strumming, chording, rhythm, and note reading are all part of this super fun class!
If you have a child ages 4 – 5 years, they can explore one of the most beautiful instruments with their parents in Beginner Violin. Children will discover how to correctly hold the instrument and learn bowing, notes, and rhythms. This cost-effective program is perfect for those string-curious youngsters who want to learn to play.
Do you want to get in on the musical fun this winter? Campfire Guitar for Adults is designed with busy adults in mind. Learn to play the guitar from the ground up in this fast-tracked, 7-week program!
Students of all ages can also dedicate themselves to private lessons in multiple instruments. Offering all styles and genres of music with highly-qualified instructors, any child, no matter the age or skill level, will happily progress as they learn and grow. These one-on-one lessons are available in the studio or, depending on location, in your home.
