If you have young actors, get them on stage this year with Morpheus Theatre! With singing, acting, and a chance to perform, your kids and teenagers will find their niche with Morpheus Theatre’s G&S Junior Theatre School program. Even if your child is not dreaming of a career on stage, performing can help build confidence, encourage teamwork, and help kids find a place to belong. This is the year they can shine!

Morpheus Theatre exists to provide actors, directors, and crew with education and production experience, especially for those interested in the music of Gilbert and Sullivan. They want to provide everyone with a chance to learn and be a part of a dedicated group of like-minded people while bringing a production to life.

The G&S Junior Theatre School program at Morpheus Theatre is for kids and youth ages 9 – 17 years. The program gives kids a chance to refine their acting skills and challenge themselves with the lyrics and patter of the Gibert and Sullivan operetta, The Gondoliers. The program is divided into junior and senior classes. Classes run on Saturday mornings, beginning in mid-October. The course concludes with a presentation of the show with full set and costumes at the Pumphouse Theatre on April 29th and 30th, 2024.

When students first begin the program, they work as a group developing basic skills in all performance elements. Once the casting and rehearsal phase begins, they are assigned a role in the show. Role assignments are geared towards each child’s skill level, with consideration of what will benefit their development as a performer.

Students learn the basics of choral singing in this program, such as tuning, breath management, proper formation of vowels, good diction, posture and facial expression. The basics of musical sight-reading are taught, listening skills are honed, and singing in harmony is introduced. The fun, humour, and drama of Gilbert and Sullivan is a great way for youth to be introduced to classical music, and the program encourages teamwork and friendship. It’s a low-stress environment that is positive and constructive. Plus, this year’s tuition includes a workshop with a Broadway performer from Hadestown!

With a chance to be a part of a fun performance and an encouraging environment, your child can realize their full creative potential. It’s time to register your child for the Morpheus G&S Theatre School!
