The performing arts may have taken a hit in the last year, but we all know how we gravitate towards music in times of joy and in times of trouble. Some kids have a passion for music that includes performance and would like nothing better than to rock out when school ends. Well, this is the summer kids need to let loose, and the School of Rock Calgary South is the place for kids to expand their musical horizons and build strong musical and performing foundations. With summer camps for kids ages 6 – 18, the School of Rock has a place for your child to play guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals. No experience is necessary and kids get to experience performing as close to the “real thing” as possible!
The music camps at School of Rock offer a great selection of experiences from beginner to intermediate and advanced. With everything from performance boot camps to songwriting and recording, you’ll find a camp for your child, no matter the skill level. Check which weeks are most convenient for you and work for your child’s interest. Maybe the Rock 101 Performance Camp will be just right, where students will develop their musicianship and learn new skills in a creative and fun environment. There is also a Songwriting Camp, where students learn about chord progressions, arrangements, and other tricks of the trade, or maybe the half-day Rookies Camp is just right. No matter what you choose, your child will be gaining a performance-based music education and many of the camps end with a live show for family and friends!
The School of Rock believes that the stage is the ultimate teacher, so they give their young musicians a chance to immediately apply what they have learned to real life, and take their new skills to the stage. Kids get to perform with people and in a band, not only growing musically but also learning how to think on their feet. They learn resiliency and how to deal with challenges. What do you do, for example, when the lights go out or your cable dies? There’s no better place to get real-life experience than in a safe environment that is working to bring out your best!
