A whole day dedicated to celebrating our families? We’ll take it! Family Day is celebrated on February 16th this year, but family-friendly activities are happening all weekend long. Enjoy the holiday, grab the kids, and make memories as a family. There are oodles of events to pick from over the February 13th – 16th weekend. More events will be added daily to our Family Day Events category, so be sure to check back! Valentine’s Day also happens to occur this weekend, and while there are a lot of events that cross over, we’ve pulled out some heart-themed ones for our Valentine’s Day Guide.

The Family Forward Festival presented by Carousel Theatre 

Get ready for a full weekend of connection and creativity at Carousel Theatre for Young People’s NEW Family Forward Festival! It’s three full days of family-friendly programming over – you guessed it – the Family Day long weekend! With shows for every age and interest, there is sure to be an event to spark your interest! Gateway Theatre presents: “Where Have All the Buffalo Gone?” 

Head to the theatre on Family Day for a show that is both highly entertaining and educational. Where Have All the Buffalo Gone is an Axis Theatre production, presented by Gateway Theatre, that follows the souls of two MĂŠtis people during crucial moments in Metis history. Filled with live music, dance, and a dazzling buffalo costume, audiences of all ages will be mesmerized by this timeless love story. For more details, click here.


BIG BANG Festival

This joyful music festival promises a vibrant journey through colourful experiences: mini-concerts, interactive fun, surprise performances, and more! Children don’t just have to sit still and listen, but are swept up in the magic and excitement of music. Admission is FREE at Steveston Tram this weekend. Explore the interactive displays, including a light-up map that traces the routes of the historic Interurban tram.

Grab your family for a nice outdoor skate at one of Vancouver’s most popular skating rinks.

“Global Village” at Hastings Mill Museum | February 15

Family Day is nearly here, and Hastings Mill Museum is hosting a fabulous event to celebrate the “Global Village.” Dress in your national costume, enjoy cookies and tea from around the world, see a live HAM radio demonstration, and make a carving from Brazilian soapstone! Visitors can also make a Valentine’s Day greeting that will be mailed to the UN General Assembly Headquarters. Entrance is free, but there is a small cost for the Brazilian soapstone activity.

The annual Kids Take Over UBC! returns on February 16th Kids Take Over UBC! is an open-door arts and culture festival for UBC families and the wider audience in Metro Vancouver to enjoy UBC’s world-class assets and public spaces together, while interacting with artists, musicians, dancers and more.

Richmond Children’s Arts Festival

Family Day in Burnaby

There are so many exciting things happening in the city of Burnaby this Family Day! From free entry and activity at Burnaby Heritage Village to free drop-in programs, swimming, and skating at community centres across the city, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Family Day Campfire

Who doesn’t love a campfire? Visit Belcarra Regional Park or Pacific Spirit Regional Park for storytelling and fun activities. Don’t forget to bring your own marshmallows to roast!

Family Day at the Vancouver Maritime Museum

This Family Day, learn about the incredible maritime history in Vancouver. In addition to FREE admission all day long, there will be storytime, activities, and plenty of family fun! Pre-book entry times.

Fort Langley National Historic Site

Enjoy live demos, hands-on activities, and stories that celebrate food and family. Little explorers can dive into a kid-friendly scavenger hunt (with a prize at the finish!), warm up with cranberry bannock cooked over an open fire, discover what historic mealtimes were really like, and join guided plant walks highlighting Indigenous food and medicinal plants. Regular admission fees apply, but youth 17 & under are free.

Hillcrest Family Day

Hillcrest Community Centre is the place to be for Family Day fun! Enjoy carnival games, a bouncy castle, crafts, prizes, and so much more.

Museum of Vancouver Family Day

Create, connect, and celebrate Family Day at the Museum of Vancouver! Drop in anytime to explore hands-on activity stations led by local artists and crafters, each offering a free, all-ages creative experience. Love what you make (or see)? You’ll also have the chance to browse and purchase unique handmade goods directly from the artists.

Storytime at Coquitlam Public Library

Celebrate Family Day with a special story, followed by fun family activities. This event is FREE, and registration is not necessary.

Valentine’s Day Guide
