Recently we had the wonderful opportunity to spend a weekend at Green Acres on Saltspring Island.  Earlier in the summer a friend raved about his experience at Green Acres and we knew we needed to check it out.

The weekend we visited was a proper West Coast weekend: grey clouds, cold blowing wind and buckets of rain.  I’ll be honest, I love weekends like that – truly! Green Acres is a spectacular place to curl up as a family and have a much-needed quiet weekend together.

The GORGEOUS log chalet we stayed in felt instantly like home.  Nestled amongst towering trees, we spent a wonderful two days curled up in front of the fire reading books and playing board games we brought with us.

Green Acres provided such a calming and serene environment that our two boys were able to, successfully, share a room for the first time.  Even bigger, our newly-minted three year old slept in a real bed with blankets, as opposed to the railed bed with sleep sac he prefers at home.

The property manager, Randy Marchi, is warm and welcoming.  A real sweetheart!  He was so worried the rain would ruin our trip, which certainly wasn’t the case.  He happily answered all of our questions, and was most accommodating with all of our requests.

Lake at Green AcresGreen Acres is all about families!  There are swings scattered around the property, a boat house packed full of canoes, kayaks and paddle boats free for use, and a great playground right along the beautiful St. Mary Lake.  In July and August the family-activities ramp up to epic proportions.  On Monday nights there is live music and a family dance; Wednesdays bring tie-dying in the afternoon and a marshmallow roast and sing-a-long in the evening; Thursdays are family movie and pj night.  Such fun!

I highly recommend taking your family to Green Acres.  The accommodation rates are very reasonable; the log chalets are gorgeous and look brand new despite bring seven years old.  There are beach cottages right along the lake; they appeared to be equally charming!

We had a glorious weekend on Saltspring (oh, be sure to have a meal at the Tree House Cafe…your kids will think it it super cool to eat at a restaurant built around a tree).  Relax and enjoy the wonderful family-friendly retreat of Green Acres. You won’t be disappointed.
