September 23, 2020: This event has been cancelled for 2020 due to COVID-19.

L'il Haunters at Potters House of HorrorsI’m a big chicken. Scary Halloween experiences do nothing for me…other than causing me to worry about having a heart attack or peeing my pants. So needless to say, I’ve never been one of the countless people who expectantly await the annual opening of Potter’s House of Horrors. A few years ago Potter’s started L’il Haunters, an experience that is suitable for chickens-like-me, and kids of all ages. Their non-scary, but a bit spooky, Halloween experiment was a success and now L’il Haunters is back for it’s second year!

Every year parents show up with little ones (we are talking 2 & 3 year olds) ready to go through the Family Show of Potters House of Horrors. Even the Family Show isn’t for kids under 10 years old (and I’m pretty sure I couldn’t survive through the Family Show). L’il Haunters is Potter’s response to a community need. A Halloween experience for the young (and scaredy cats).

L'il Haunters at Potters House of HorrorsTucked at the back of the Potter House of Horrors parking lot, the kid-friendly Halloween experience is intended to be spooky and not scary. I think the organizers have achieved just that. Personally, I think kids aged 5 – 10 years would enjoy L’il Haunters the most. The bouncy castle and inflatable Halloween decorations would appeal to the littlest visitors, as would the craft station. However, the haunted house is spooky. The music gets your skin crawling and caused me to look over my shoulder a few times. Some of the decorations are morbid – a teddy bear with intestines & bones popping out; skeletons with worms crawling out of eye sockets; and Frankenstein being electrocuted. Now there are no actors and no animatronics, so the startle factor is completely eliminated. Whew! But, if you have a sensitive young one (under 5 years), you may wish to wait until they are a bit older.

L'il Haunters at Potters House of HorrorsWithout a doubt there is great whimsy in some of the L’il Haunters decorations. My eldest couldn’t get enough of the box containing Ghost Farts! The 3,000 year old hot dog was also especially appealing to my boys. I highly recommend taking your kids to L’il Haunters. We had a great afternoon getting our chills & thrills; we were definitely in the Halloween-frame-of-mind when we left. As Halloween draws closer, L’il Haunters will become increasingly busy. The sooner you go the better!
