NOTE: The Village Square Leisure Centre will close from August 31, 2026, to the end of 2027, for an upgrade. The arenas will be open until March 2027.
Services such as Alberta Health Services, Calgary Public Library and Fair Entry will still be open, although there will be a short closure at some point. Be sure to check ahead, as timing has not been confirmed.
If you’re willing to brave the crowds, head to the Last Ride Down the Thunder Slide party on August 30, 2026. It will be one last ride down the famous Thunder Slide, a part of Calgary’s memories since 1994. Enjoy retro admission pricing (only $4 a person, and kids 5 and under are free!), a DJ, décor and more. There will be two swimming sessions, from 10 AM – 1:30 PM and 2:30 – 6 PM, but they expect to reach capacity on that day, so feel free to check it out before then.
