Do you hear the shriek of the train whistle? Listen for the puffing engine and the clatter of its wheels as it comes closer! Kids of all ages love trains, whether they’re counting the freight cars as they pass or excitedly climbing aboard for a unique experience. Railway Days is coming to Heritage Park, with an entire weekend dedicated to the park’s collection of historic rolling stock trains. Did you know that Heritage Park is one of only a few places in North America with two steam engines? This is your chance to see trains, ride trains, and discover everything you wanted to know about trains!
Railway Days, from September 3 – 4, 2022, is one of Heritage Park’s most exciting annual events, offering your family all the fun you’ve come to expect from Heritage Park, plus a wide variety of unique activities that will fascinate rail enthusiasts. Trains take centre stage for two days of demonstrations, hands-on activities, and exciting exhibits.
See model train displays, tour the cab of an antique steam engine, and catch a rare glimpse of Heritage Park’s turntable in action. Send telegrams from station to station, ride the handcar, and watch the locomotive take on water. Children can join the Kids’ Railway Challenge for interactive activities and a chance to win a prize pack. Make sure you enter the Railway Days photo contest (prior to the event) for a chance at getting your photos displayed at the Rail Pavilion that weekend!
If that’s not enough, get your tickets to make your day even more exciting with a special ride on Heritage Park’s little red caboose! This wooden caboose was built in 1912 by the Canadian Pacific Railway at Angus Shops in Montreal, and a brightly painted caboose, topped by a little observation cupola, used to bring up the rear of every freight train.
So, this Labour Day weekend, not only can you step back in time to experience living history, but you can see the trains in action and at their finest. It’s all aboard for Railway Days at Heritage Park!
Heritage Park Historical Village is open daily from 10 am – 5 pm, from Victoria Day Weekend until Labour Day Weekend then weekends only until Thanksgiving. Gasoline Alley Museum is open daily, year-round (holiday exceptions may apply).
