It’s time for an adventure this summer, right in the heart of the city! Summer camps at The Confluence will feed your child’s curiosity and creativity with science, art, and nature. With multiple camps (including two brand-new options!), kids can discover the world around them or unleash their artistic inspirations. This summer is a time to explore!
The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland is located on 40 acres of natural land beside the Bow and Elbow rivers, where many significant archaeological finds have been made. It has been a place of Indigenous significance for thousands of years and was where the North West Mounted Police established Fort Calgary in 1875. Today, it is a place to gather and learn.
Summer Camps at The Confluence
Summer camps at The Confluence offer a rich experience for kids aged 6 – 12 years. With a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, kids will connect with nature and explore stories from our city’s past and present.
Rooted in community, The Confluence is conveniently located between downtown and Inglewood. This makes it both an easy drop-off location for those who work downtown and an excellent location for walkable field trips.
These summer camps include trips to fun places within walking distance of The Confluence, like St. Patrick’s Island, Studio Bell, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, the Central Library, and Vertigo Theatre. Campers will also get to engage with special guests from around the neighbourhood.
Wherever your camper’s interests lie, there’s a perfect camp for them. Every year, at least 70% of existing camp programming is updated, so returning campers get a fresh experience. Plus, there are two brand-new camp themes this year!
Ages 6 – 8
Kids ages 6 – 8 can check out Birds and Bison at the Bow where they will venture into the great outdoors as they connect to the land and nature. They will investigate the urban wild, discovering the ecosystems of the riverside, prairie fields, and woods. Artists on the Land connects campers to nature and the environment through their artistic side. They’ll experiment with a variety of art techniques and a Métis Knowledge Keeper will visit to teach campers about Métis art.
Ages 8 – 10
Take the Stage Drama Camp is new this year for kids ages 8 – 10. This camp will have budding drama enthusiasts get creative by putting on an exciting, original show that friends and family are invited to watch at the end of the week! Campers will also get a special behind-the-scenes tour of local professional theatre company Vertigo Theatre.
Ages 9 – 12
Also new this year is Stars Above, Earth Below for ages 9 – 12. This nature-focused camp will get youth exploring the natural wonders of the earth and sky with a constellation of activities to celebrate the natural world! This age group can also enjoy Curators of Creativity. This camp gives kids a chance to try out different art mediums, creating a variety of pieces based on nature and the community. Your young art lover will enjoy a chance to be a curator, too, and put together a show featuring all their projects.
All camps run from 9 AM – 4 PM, and busy parents will be happy to know that complimentary before and after care runs from 8 – 9 AM and 4 – 5 PM. Parents also have the option to purchase daily lunches from Spolumbo’s Fine Foods & Deli.
Camps fill up quickly, so don’t miss out! Head to the Summer camps at The Confluence webpage to register and get ready for a summer of discovery and adventure, right in the heart of the city!
