It’s time to celebrate an amazing milestone! The 50th anniversary of The Hangar Flight Museum will soon be here, and everyone is invited to join the party this November. This is the perfect time for families and plane lovers to learn more about Canada’s aviation history.
The Hangar Flight Museum History
The Aero Space Museum of Calgary was registered as a non-profit charitable organization in 1975. They took up residence in the former Bullock Helicopter Hangar at the south end of the Calgary International Airport. This former British Commonwealth Air Training Plan drill hall from the Second World War has been the Museum’s home ever since. The Museum’s name was changed to The Hangar Flight Museum in 2016, along with a commitment to increase relevance and impact within the community. In 2022, Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame relocated to Calgary, and their new home is at The Hangar Flight Museum. Now, it’s time to celebrate 50 years!
50th Anniversary Celebrations
The actual anniversary of The Hangar Flight Museum is November 17, 2025, and VIP and general admission tickets are on sale for a gala evening.
But families will want to celebrate on November 15 – 16, 2025, with the 50th Anniversary Weekend! These days will be packed with family-friendly activities, including tours (11:30 AM and 2:30 PM), presentations (11:15 AM and 2:15 PM), wind tunnel testing, a Build Your Own Plane puzzle craft, and storytimes (11 AM, 12:30 PM, and 2 PM).

The Hangar Flight Museum is honoured to be the stewards and storytellers of Canada’s aviation history, sharing their passion for the science and history of aviation with people of all ages. They have set records in the last couple of years for students in their educational programs. Plus, they are introducing three additional programs to reach new audiences and connect with more sections of the Alberta curriculum.
