We decided we needed to try out some family fun in Regina. My family needed to be in Regina in April, so we planned a trip full of new activities and fun. I wanted to share some of our trip, which includes things to do on a budget. I went to university in Regina, but it appears I didn’t take a lot of time to explore and take in many Regina experiences. It’s always different when you have a child to entertain, but I think I would have enjoyed a lot of it as a university student as well. We tried to do new activities and eat at places we would not find in Saskatoon, and we almost succeeded! I’m looking forward to another visit soon so we can try even more new things.

Royal Saskatchewan Museum
Cost: Admission by donation. They suggest $5 a person.

Royal Saskatchewan Museum
We didn’t look into the price in advance, but were pleased to see the admission is by donation. There has been a lot of work put into this museum, and it’s full of exhibits that both kids and adults will love. This was a brand new experience for me as I have no memory of visiting the museum. (This could just be due to my age.) The parking was easy and free, and the museum location was lovely.

Scotty the T-Rex
Our first stop was to meet Scotty the T-Rex, and we spent a lot of time learning about him. At one point, I wondered if we would be able to get through the rest of the museum before it closed because my son could have spent most of his time just in that room. Scotty was discovered in Saskatchewan and is known to be the world’s largest and oldest T-rex.

Amazing Exhibits
There was something to learn in every single spot and every single exhibit, including some interactive areas. We went from the world with dinosaurs to the world after dinosaurs, to the Indigenous Gallery, to Life Sciences and beyond. I’d say as far as finding family fun in Regina, this is a great one with new things to discover every time you visit.
Regina Floral Conservatory
Cost: Admission by donation

Regina Floral Conservatory
The Regina Floral Conservatory was such a great experience. We went on a cooler day so we all appreciated the warmth because it had not quite warmed up outside yet. My son loved spotting some ants as well. I have been to this place before because I was once a bridesmaid in a wedding at the Regina Floral Conservatory, and it’s definitely a great memory. They are open to the public, but also hold events as well, and they hold space on Mondays for mom and kids who need to get out of the house.

A hug for cacti.
This place is run by volunteers of the non-profit, Regina Garden Associates, in partnership with the City of Regina. It is Regina’s premiere indoor garden display. You can visit from September to June, and it’s open all week. When we were done visiting everything, my son said this was his favourite place to visit. They also have nice tables set up where you can sit and drink coffee.
Wascana Lake
Cost: Free walk, but you can do activities in the warmer months that can cost money, and of course if you stop for food, that will be extra, but you can pack a picnic when it’s warmer.

Wascana Lake
We were feeling pretty ambitious the next day and decided we should park and walk all the way around Wascana Lake. This was a lovely idea in theory, but it was chilly, and we did not dress warm enough AND we were concerned every goose was out to get us, and there were a lot of geese. We walked from one side, and took a little break from walking all the way around to head toward downtown and grab some lunch and treats.

Ice Cream break at Elle’s Cafe
Even though it was colder than we would have liked, we stopped for ice cream after some lunch. I’ve been watching Elle’s Cafe’s reels on Instagram, and they won me over. We got some ice cream and then walked back to the car. It was too cold to eat the ice cream while we walked, so I ended up holding both until we got to the car. The good news was it didn’t melt too much because we weren’t yet at summer. Next time, I will drive. We never regret ice cream, but we may regret the chilly walk.

Bubbles at the Saskatchewan Science Centre
I knew when we were planning our trip that we needed to visit the Saskatchewan Science Centre. We stopped there on our last morning in Regina before heading home. The Science Centre also has an IMAX which would have been fun if we had more time. This was a museum I remember going to when I was younger so I was excited to share it with my son. Some of the same exhibits are there, and it was fun to do it all again.

Saskatchewan Science Centre – Learning about electricity.
Little did I know, that I would steal all of my son’s hair raising fun, but we’ll be back to try again some day. He had a lot of fun going through all the spots to try experiments, learn more, and of course take some cool photos.

Playground at Saskatchewan Science Centre
The inside is full of all things cool, and we were just as impressed with all the fun things to do in the playground outside. We didn’t stay for long because we had a long drive home, but my son got to experiment with a few more things that got his energy out at the same time.
