Whether you’ve got the whole world in your hands or just a tiny piece of it, give a little extra love to Mother Earth on April 22nd. Earth Day, first held in 1970 and officially recognized in 1990, is now celebrated globally each year.
Earth Day is a great time to learn more about sustainability and what your crew can be doing on a small or large scale to help combat global warming and show an appreciation for the beautiful planet we call home. From backyard projects to community events, there are plenty of fun, kid-friendly events and activities available throughout the month of April to commemorate this day!
Cherry Blossom Festival | March 27- April 12, 2026: It may not fall directly on Earth Day, but an appreciation for the beauty of the Cherry Blossom trees around Metro Vancouver is one way to get your crew outdoors and explore new areas.
Earth Day at Stanley Park | April 18, 2026: To celebrate Earth Day, Stanley Park is hosting a full day of free events and activities for families. Join plant and tree walks, visit booths, participate in family crafts and activities and enter to win raffle prizes!
Earth Day Family Forest Walk | April 18, 2026: Grab your crew and head to Stanley Park for a special Earth Day Family Forest Walk! Experienced guides will lead explorers of all ages on a gentle walk to listen to birdsong, feel the textures of the forest, and use magnifiers to get a closer look at what lies beneath. All ages welcome, but the program is designed specifically for families with children ages 5-12.
UBC Earth Day with Suzanne Simard | April 22, 2026: Celebrate the launch of When the Forest Breathes with acclaimed author and UBC Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Stewardship professor Suzanne Simard. Together, explore an urgent and thought-provoking question: how can we reshape our relationship with forests and with each other in a time of ecological change?
Party for the Planet |April 25, 2026: This FREE festival includes incredible live entertainment, a family zone with crafts for kids, games and activities, a marketplace selling sustainable goods, and a plant sale!
Earth Day in Maple Ridge | April 26, 2026: Celebrate Earth Day with live music, activities, and education at Memorial Peace Park in Maple Ridge.
Fairy Gardens: Fairy Gardens are a fun and inexpensive way to get the whole family outside and working in the dirt. Grab a pot, some soil, small plants, and a couple of fun items from the dollar store, and your kids will love creating their own unique garden.
Cooking with Kids: Cooking might not immediately come to mind when you think of “Earth Day,” but it lends itself to all sorts of conversations about sustainability, farming, and reducing waste by making the most of leftover food in the fridge. Fairy Kingdom at Redwood Park: Kids and adults alike will love visiting this whimsical forest in Surrey. Dozens of fairy homes line the forest. Many of the homes have been created by children. Some of the homes are merely doors built into the base of trees. In addition to hours of exploration, there is also a spacious playground with climbing structures and a covered picnic area.
Your Next Adventure: Port Moody: Head out of your neighbourhood and check out Port Moody to celebrate Earth Day. Play in the playground, walk the Shoreline Trail, and explore the many local businesses during your day out.
