The ideal playground continuously changes as my kids get older. When they were babies, the gold standard was a park that had a fence around it and plenty of low-to-the-ground play areas. As they get bigger, I’m more focused on other amenities, like plenty of park benches or picnic tables to relax at, washrooms nearby, and elements of water play or something for warmer days.

Whatever season of life you’re in, we’ve pulled together the ULTIMATE playground guide so you can pick something close to home or venture out further. Look for a ⭐️ to indicate playgrounds that truly have it all!

⭐️ Top spots | 🚻 Washrooms on site | 🚲 Bike Paths | 🌭 Food/Concession on site/nearby | 💦 Spray park/pool

Confederation Park | ⭐️ 🚻 🌭 💦

A park I never turn down when my kids ask…even on hot days! The playground is expansive (albeit hot, in the summer), but the splash park and the plentiful trees for shade make it work. This is another spot that seems to be a popular group and family gathering place, likely due to the availability of parking, proximity to shops and restaurants, and the wide open space. Plus, the Burnaby Central Mini Railway is a HUGE hit and one of my top 10 things to do in Metro Vancouver. Lots of places to grab a bite to eat close to the park, and the Railway has a concession stand as well.

Edmonds Park | 🚻 💦

Close to Edmonds Community Centre, this park has great climbing structures, areas for smaller kids and plenty of swings! Families love this park because of its proximity; play before/after classes or lessons, and make a whole day of it! Plus, there’s a great splash pad that opens in May and stays open until Labour Day Long Weekend!

Blue Mountain Park |⭐️🚻 🚲 🌭 💦

Blue Mountain Park is an urban forest setting with the shade of hundreds of trees: tall Douglas Fir, Red Cedar, North Red Oak, and several Redwoods. This makes it a top choice for hot, sunny days! Blue Mountain Park offers opportunities for casual play and organized sport, with sports fields, a ball diamond, and tennis courts. The popular playground, paved bike path, wading pool, spray park, and outdoor pool become an active meeting place for families.

Como Lake Park

Como Lake Park

Como Lake Park | 🚻

This is the playground for imaginative play, and it is perfect for young kids! A boat, fish, and turtles make up one section of the playground. There is also a music station. Kids will also love the swings & climbing structures. Parents will love the fact that there is a fence around the playground to keep the kids safe from the busy road and the nearby lake.

Cottonwood Park | 🚲 💦

Plenty of open field space, a neat parkour area and an upgraded playground (as of 2022) make this a park worth visiting! The tall slide and abundance of swings was a big hit with my kids, and we keep meaning to go back and check out the spray park portion.

Town Centre Park | 🚻 🚲 🌭 💦

Does Town Centre Park/Lafarge Lake have pretty much every amenity a family could want? Yes. Does the park frequently host incredible festivals and events? Also yes. But there’s one thing holding Town Centre Park back from a coveted ⭐️… the playground and spray park is desperately in need of an upgrade! Yes, they are both safe and functional, but with the popularity of the park and the upgraded areas in pretty much every other section of the park, the playground and spray park seem forgotten. Regardless, a trip to Lafarge Lake/Town Centre Park is still worth the drive. While you’re here, be sure to grab a treat from Rocky Point Ice Cream or The Praguery!

Mundy Park 1200x1000

Treetop Structure in Mundy Park

Mundy Park | ⭐️ 🚲 🚻

A top choice for kids (and teens) because of the super high climbing structures and tiny tot area, Mundy Park is always packed with kids…but in a good way! Rain or shine, the tree cover provides the ideal playground conditions to tire out active kids. There are lots of bike and walking trails, a pool nearby, and occasionally, a concession stand will be open during busy summer days.

Sheffield Park |⭐️ 🚻 🚲 💦

Located on Burke Mountain, an increasingly popular neighbourhood for families, Sheffield Park is the latest in a string of exciting new playgrounds and park spaces to open in the last few years. Built into the side of a mountain and with great views, this park will remind playground aficionados (and their children!) of other local spots such as Queenston Park and Riley Park, but Sheffield Park offers more amenities that families will love, like a huge sandbox, bike paths, a spray area, and washrooms!

Queenston Park |⭐️

The entire playground has a WOW factor. Though it is a community playground (no washrooms or drinking fountains), Queenston Park’s Playground is a must-visit. After climbing up the steep hill countless times, your kids will come home tuckered. Note that it does get hot in the summer because there isn’t a lot of shade, so plan to go early or head there during a cooler time of year!

Brydon Park |🚻

Swings of all sizes and configurations, a zip line, and climbing structures for all ages are just a few of the fabulous features at Brydon Park. This playground is worth the drive regardless of where you’re coming from, but if you need one more reason to hop in the car, the zip line alone is worth the drive, because it’s not your average zip line…no, this one has a swing attached so you can sit and zip across the playground! There’s also a cool Hot Wheels race track attached to the play structure, so be sure to bring your cars with you!

Not only are the bright colours visually stunning, but there are plenty of climbing areas for kids of all ages. With the expected opening of the spray park in Summer 2026, this is one park that is sure to be a family favourite. Be sure to take sun cover – there isn’t a lot of shade (yet?!)

Nestled in the trees is this newly renovated playground that truly has it all! In 2025, Maple Ridge Park received a much-needed upgrade to the playground and an added water park feature! After some delays and structures that needed to be fixed or modified, it was *the* place to be in the summer of 2025! With ample parking, washrooms on site, plenty of shade and picnic tables, and trails to walk, this is an ideal spot to meet friends, have a family get-together, or just enjoy a day out! Harris Road Park | ⭐️ 🚻 🚲 🌭 💦

This park is *perfect* for hot, sunny days when you need a bit of shade! With plenty of trees around the playground, it’s easy to escape the sun and stay cool. Looking to catch some Vitamin D? You’ll find plenty of that on the open field directly next to the large playground! The bathrooms are new and updated, and there are paths to scoot or bike around if you’ve got a particularly active kid. We *love* the zipline and with a pool and a spray park onsite, it’s easy to spend a whole day. Directly across the street, there are plenty of food options, so you can pick something up along the way!

Lions Park | 🚻 🚲 💦

We spent a lot of time here when I was growing up because it had everything we needed – bathrooms, a convenient parking lot, tons of picnic benches, and a playground that would keep kids happy all day long! In 2015, a million-dollar renovation gave Lions Park an updated and improved playground, splash pad, and even more amenities to keep families coming back. It’s a great playground and ideal for a large gathering!

Inlet Park | 🚻 🚲 🌭

Made almost entirely from wood and rope, this playground is great for school-aged kids and tweens who are looking to practice their climbing and balancing skills. There are tons of wooden structures for climbing and a giant ladder that leads up to a great slide. There’s also a fenced-in tot lot, plus a FIFA-sized soccer pitch, baseball diamond, and close to a number of cafes and shops.

Rocky Point Park | 🚻 🚲 🌭💦

The playground is a little…shall we say… “vintage,” but the park itself is still a top choice for parents (and kids!) Why? The spray park is amazing, the playground has enough play structures, spinning elements, and swings to keep kids happy, and there is plenty of open, grassy area to play. Don’t miss grabbing an ice cream at Rocky Point Ice Cream and fish and chips at Pajo’s.

Westhill Park | 🚻 💦

Ample parking, covered spaces, swings, and a zipline make this a fun attraction for kids of all ages. This playground is best suited for tots to school-age kids, but there is also a covered lacrosse box and basketball hoop, in addition to an outdoor pool for bigger kids and teens.

Redwoods Park | 🚲 🚻

We call this one “Fairy Park” because of the magical trail that leads to an abundance of little fairy houses, but truthfully, the playground itself is equally awesome. We love this park because it has a little bit of everything – plenty of grass and picnic tables, a nice trail and unique fairy houses to explore, and a great playground suitable for all ages.

Brewer’s Park | ⭐️ 🚻

Swings, climbing structures, and in-ground trampolines are just some of the amazing features at this playground! There’s also a huge sand area with a water feature that was a big hit for my kids. Creekside Park | 🚲

You know a playground that includes a zipline is going to be a BIG hit with the kids! The playground, which opened in 2020,  cost $900,000 to build and offers several playground features kids will love: a climbing tower, giant tube slide, swings, play hut with ramp, musical instruments, water & sand play area. Located right next to Science World, it’s a great place to play before and after your visit to the dome.

Douglas Park |🚻 🚲 💦

We initially ended up at this park by accident, after leaving a birthday party nearby, and I’m so glad we did! This park has everything a kid could want – lots of climbing structures (for all levels), an expansive play area, a mixture of wooden structures and plastic/modern structures, and a huge sandpit to play in and a water play area. Plus, there’s a wading pool for hot days when you need to cool off post-park.

Granville Island Playground |⭐️🚻 🚲 🌭 💦

Hands down, this is my favourite summer playground, and one of the few places I am *always* agreeable to visiting. With lots of places for parents to sit, there’s shade in the park side and glorious sun on the spray park side. Plus, the incredible water slide keeps my kids running up the stairs to ride again and again. As a parent, I love the convenience of shops and cafes nearby, being able to roll the park visit into a whole day of lazily strolling Granville Island, and the endless hours of people watching while my kids tire themselves out. 10/10 summer day at Granville Island Playground!
