Game-Changing Science: May 15 – September 7, 2026
To celebrate and coincide with Vancouver being one of 3 host countries for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Science World’s featured exhibit is Soccer & Technology from the FIFA Museum. Here, visitors can see the enormous amount of technology and technological advances used in soccer broadcasting and in playing the game as a whole. From standardized soccer balls to installing proper floodlights in stadiums, many details go into staging a proper professional soccer match. Visitors will also see the jersey worn by Christine Sinclair during the gold-medal-winning game between Canada and Sweden during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the match ball from Canada’s game against Croatia during the FIFA World Cup 2022, and the jersey worn by Canada’s captain during the 2022 FIFA World Cup opening match.
Plus, catch the 9-minute short film about Christine Sinclair’s historic 190 goals in the documentary Christine Sinclair: Kind of a Big Deal. Follow along as Christine Sinclair rose from a Burnaby-born player to become one of the most recognized and celebrated female soccer players in the world. The film is narrated by another Canadian icon, Ryan Reynolds.
