You may already know Camp Amicus as a great place for kids with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD to spend part of the summer. But what about the rest of the year? There’s fun and learning to be had year-round! Amicus Recreation, by Foothills Academy, lets kids with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD experience fun recreational activities during the non-summer months, with the added benefit of social skills lessons!
A wide variety of recreational activities are on offer and constantly being updated to respond to the interests of program participants. This fall, Amicus is teaching sports, cooking, music, art, app development and 3D printing, plus outdoor recreation. Like all Amicus programs, developing positive social skills is a part of every program. A different social skill is taught at the beginning of each session and reinforced throughout the session with active social coaching. Zones of Regulation are used as a teaching model for self-regulation of emotions – great life skills!
All Amicus Recreation staff are university aged or older and have been specifically trained and have experience working with children & teens with Learning Disabilities and ADHD. They’re also lots of fun AND there are never more than 3 participants per staff member (strict 3:1 participant:staff ratio)!
