For many Calgarians, this magical season is not complete without a visit to the Calgary Zoo to light up the night most days from November 19, 2021, to January 2, 2022. With over 2 million lights transforming the Calgary Zoo grounds into a magical winter wonderland, this event shines. This incredible glow-tastic event offers family fun adventures.

TELUS Spark Science Centre Sparkle Sparkle

Magical lights, delicious treats, and family fun? Sounds like a perfect evening for this holiday season! TELUS Spark Science Centre has brought back Sparkle Sparkle, an exciting new holiday destination to light things up, brighten your nights, and bring you some sparkle! The darkest winter nights are nearly here, but you can come inside to warm your hearts with Sparkle Sparkle.

Airdrie Festival of Lights (Family Fun Canada)

Airdrie Festival of Lights

Head out to Airdrie for the city’s annual festival of lights from December 1st to 31st. The event features beautiful Christmas lights, miniature train rides, hot chocolate, bonfires, and much more. Santa will visit on selected dates and there will be other special events, too. Nose Creek Pond is located within the festival area and is a great place to skate outdoors when conditions permit.

Christmas Lights at Spruce Meadows

Bring the whole family to Spruce Meadows on select days from December 10, 2021, to January 2, 2022, (excluding Christmas Day), for their amazing Christmas light display. Don’t worry if it’s really cold out, or the kids are getting a little drowsy, as you will stay in your vehicle for the 2 km drive through the Spruce Meadows grounds. Lions Festival of Lights (Family Fun Calgary)

The Lions Festival of Lights is normally the largest free drive-by Christmas light showcase in Calgary. For over three decades, Calgarians have enjoyed this spectacular light display at the SE corner of Confederation Park. Legacy Christmas Lights (Family Fun Calgary)Legacy Christmas Lights

The community of Legacy, in Calgary’s SE, will be a bright spot in our city this holiday season, literally! From November 15, 2021 – January 16, 2022, Legacy will light up the south end of the city with more than a million Christmas lights in a cheery display throughout the community as one of Calgary’s largest free light displays. Enjoy walking or driving through the community to see festive lights on parks and playgrounds, trees, show homes, and design features like the Legacy clock tower. Lighten Up Calgary

Do you have the most spectacular light display in your neighbourhood? If you want the whole city to know about it, check out this website: It has a map showing the locations of some of the best private light displays in the city are (and some public ones), or you can see the information in list form.

Home of Lighten UP Calgary: 15003 Deer Run Dr SE

This Christmas display is running every day from around 5 – 10 pm until January 6, 2022. Enjoy 30,000 lights and a lot of inflatables, decorations, and custom displays. Most of the lights are music-controlled, with German and English Christmas songs. Come and enjoy the spirit of Christmas. This year there will be lots to explore, especially for the little ones! They accept donations of non-perishable food items. There is a box outside where you can leave your food items or use the \”DONATE\” button for cash donations on the website All donations will go to the Veterans Food Bank Calgary and the Calgary Food Bank.

Banff: In Search of Christmas

Head to the mountains this winter In Search of Christmas. Banff is bringing you a free outdoor lighting experience, a 45-minute story journey that’s an easy walk through a live Christmas story told by the illuminated wildlife of Banff National Park. You will check in at the Banff Park Museum and walk five minutes to the Cascade of Times Gardens for the event until January 1, 2022.

The Rotary Festival of Trees is a magical event happening throughout the month of December in Canmore for the whole family. Imagine an indoor forest of Christmas trees decorated and twinkling all in one place, all created and donated by local businesses. There will be extra events and activities happening, too.
