Shiny, Sparkly, Sublime: A Roundup of Calgary’s Best Christmas Light Displays!

Family Fun Calgary's guide to the best Christmas light displays in Calgary

Presented by Mark’s.

Sparkling, shining, and festive: Christmas lights are one of the best parts of the holiday season. When it gets dark so early, Christmas lights help lift your spirits. Plus, whether you want to be outside in that invigorating December air, or just drive by in the warmth and comfort of your car, it gives you a fun reason to get the whole family up and out the door! And because we all know that winter in Calgary can be challenging (or sometimes just confusing), we have some great outerwear options from our partners at Mark’s.

So, here are some of the best and brightest (ha ha!) Christmas light displays in Calgary and surrounding areas!

Calgary Zoo Zoolights

The glow starts here at ZOOLIGHTS this holiday season! For many Calgarians, this magical season is not complete without a visit to ZOOLIGHTS, which returns to the Calgary Zoo to light up the night between November 24th and January 6th, 2018. Be amazed by 1.5 million sparkling lights and enjoy the best of winter with family activities. Play in the snow, go skating, enjoy some hot chocolate, and stop by to see Santa!

Whether you drive by it every day or once in a while, it’s a Calgary Christmas tradition that never fails to delight!

Christmas Lights at Spruce Meadows

Once the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market wraps up for the year, you may be thinking there’s no more reason to visit Spruce Meadows this season. Wrong! Bring the whole family between December 9th and January 7th for their amazing Christmas light display. Don’t worry if it’s really cold out, or the kids are getting a little drowsy, as you will stay in your vehicle for the 2 km drive through the Spruce Meadows grounds. The grounds are beautifully decked out with a quarter of a million sparkling holiday lights. It’s truly magical and completely free.

For extra cheer, bring some holiday tunes to play in the car as you take in the spectacle. Step out of your car to enjoy a hot chocolate or coffee together with a pastry in the warm comfort of the Founders Plaza each evening during the Christmas Lights (5 – 8 pm, except for Dec. 25th).
