They are the creepies, the crawlies, and the cold-blooded. Misunderstood by some and loved by others, reptiles are fascinating creatures! If your kids are looking for an interesting experience this summer, consider summer camps with Calgary Reptile Parties. Calgary Reptile Parties is not only fun and entertaining, but they offer an educational experience with cold-blooded animals. Kids get to meet creatures like bearded dragons, geckos, and snakes, and even tarantulas or scorpions. They might even hang out with a boa constrictor!
If any of that appeals to your child, you need to know about these summer camps! Kids who attend a Calgary Reptile Parties summer camp will get to play games, do crafts, and meet all kinds of reptiles over their week of camp. With over 50 species of animals, you’ll find an interesting variety of creatures and a unique window into the world of reptiles.
Camps are available for kids entering grade one to completing grade six, at 2 different locations. Camps in the north meet at St. Andrews Heights Community Centre (by McMahon Stadium) and camps in the south meet at Park 96 on Parkland Blvd. Choose between 4 different weeks at either location. Camps run from 9 am – 4 pm during the weeks of July 15 – 19, July 22 – 26, August 12 – 16, & August 19 – 23, 2019.
Each week of camp is a different theme, so your little reptile lover could attend more than one camp and never get bored!
Cold Blooded Companions – July 15 – 19, 2019
Reptiles have become incredibly popular as pets. Like all living creatures, they have special needs and require a commitment! This week will focus on what reptiles need to be cared for as pets, how long they live, and the importance of responsible pet ownership. You’ll meet some of the best reptile pets like geckos and dragons, and some that are definitely for those with experience. The perfect primer to having a reptile of your own!
Conservation Conversation – July 22 – 26, 2019
We know all about endangered species like pandas and gorillas. Our cold-blooded friends don’t get the same exposure and support! This week will introduce campers to the importance of amphibians, reptiles, and arachnids to the ecosystem. You will meet and learn about native species like the western hognose snake, invasive species like iguanas and toads, endangered reptiles like Fiji banded iguanas and crocodile lizards, and much more!
In Living Colour – August 12 – 16 2019
Reptiles & amphibians are some of the most colourful creatures on earth. Campers will discover how these animals use colours to thrive in their environments. How do reptiles camouflage? Why do some have bright colours? Why and how do chameleons change colours? What is a “morph?” Campers will learn all about the bright and beautiful world of reptiles and amphibians with this colourful week-long experience. Meet Emerald Tree Boas, Albino Ball Pythons, Red Footed Tortoises and more!
Reptile Restaurant – August 19 – 23, 2019
Reptiles and amphibians have some of the most diverse diets in the animal kingdom. Why is “just lettuce” not enough for herbivores? Why do some tortoises need grass and hay? Do all snakes only eat mice? Meet a frog big enough to eat a mouse, geckos that can have a bug-free diet, and find out why tegus are often called “the garbage can of the rainforest.” Dine in at the reptile restaurant!
Your child can go on an unforgettable adventure this summer to the world of reptiles! It only takes a week and they don’t even have to leave Calgary to enjoy these fascinating experiences. There are still spots available for this unique summer camp, so register now!
