Creativity, drama, and a safe place to belong: your kids will find their niche with drama classes that carry them from winter to spring. Parents know all about navigating the drama of family life, so this is a chance to add some positive drama to your life! Calgary Young People’s Theatre Drama Classes are designed to inspire and excite your kids with all the creative possibilities.

Calgary Young People’s Theatre (CYPT) was created to develop young people in the creative arts by offering a safe place to explore creativity. Through their classes, camps, workshops, and production opportunities, kids and youth can explore the creative arts and develop their potential.

With locations in Calgary’s NW, SW, and SE, CYPT offers weekly classes for children and teens ages 4 – 18 to discover drama. Classes are led by professional theatre actors, directors, and playwrights and run from January until spring. Kids will learn how to act, improvise, and create a play, for a chance to express themselves and showcase their unique creativity. Classes are divided by age group. No experience is necessary and drama classes will quickly become the favourite part of your child’s week.

CYPT has classes for kids starting at age 4, helping them how to express themselves in positive ways. Act One, for kids ages 4 – 6 years, is a popular, fun-filled introduction to drama. Developing a child’s creativity at an early age encourages social skills and confidence. Various dramatic skills are explored through games and exercises including storytelling, character building, improvisation, movement, and much more! You can find these classes at CYPT’s North, South – Riverbend, and West Campuses.

Act Two, for kids in grades 1 – 2, provides a unique and creative outlet for kids to express themselves, build confidence and meet new friends. Students will explore improvisation, voice and movement skills, and working as an ensemble to create a final presentation. You can find these classes at CYPT’s North, South – Riverbend, and West Campuses.

Kids in grades 3 – 4 will be a part of Act Three, for kids who are both new to drama or already know they love it. Students will try a wide variety of dramatic skills and discover their strengths. There will be a final presentation showcasing your child’s talent and all the new abilities they have acquired. You can find these classes at CYPT’s North, South – Riverbend and CKE, and West Campuses.

Of course, the older your child is, the more advanced training they will enjoy, with classes available up to grade 12. Register your child or teen at CYPT for drama adventures, new friends, and a creative outlet. It’s time to take the stage!
