Remembrance Day (Family Fun Calgary)

This is a summary of some major Remembrance Day services in the City of Calgary. You may also find smaller community-based services at the Royal Canadian Legions or community centres.

Confederation Park 55+ Activity Centre Remembrance Day

The Confederation Park 55 + Activity Centre is holding a Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday, November 9, 2018. Passchendaele the movie, will be shown after in the Social Room.

Field of Crosses

Public parking is available at the west end of the park. You can also park in the area of Eau Claire and walk across the footbridge.

Kerby Centre

Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

The Hangar Flight Museum

2018 marks the 75th anniversary of the Dambusters Raid and the 60th anniversary of NORAD. Join The Hangar Flight Museum for their annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. Past years have been well attended so they recommend that you arrive early. Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outdoors so please dress warmly. If the weather does not permit an outdoor ceremony, attendance will be limited by their indoor fire code capacities. Containers will be provided for non-perishable food donations to the Veterans’ Food Bank.

The museum will be open after the ceremony with admission by donation until 4 pm.

Canadian Pacific Headquarters

The ceremony, which pays tribute to the more than 33 000 CP employees who served, is held at CP’s Memorial Square, which is located adjacent to the top parking lot by the 69th Ave SE and Ogden Dale Road SE entrance.

Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium

Free parking for those attending the service. Tickets are free at the door, seating is assigned. Weather permitting, there will be a march past outside on the west side of the building, immediately following the indoor ceremony.

Central Memorial Park

The Calgary Highlanders have a Military parade using 4th St SW between 12th and 13th Ave SW. It will be held at the Memorial Park area around the Cenotaph, Central Memorial Park, 1221- 2 St SW.

Battalion Park

The Kings Own Calgary regiment hosts this annual Remembrance Day ceremony. You are encouraged to walk up to the park.

The Military Museums

There will be limited parking available on site in the field to the east of the Parade Square. Parking is also available at the Flames Community Arena to the South. Note that access to TMM from the arena is through a pedestrian gate in the arena fence.

Please dress warmly, and plan to arrive early as past events have been well attended. The museum will be open after the service and admission will be by donation.

Containers will be provided for non-perishable food donations to the Veterans’ Food Bank.

The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace 1918 – 2018

Mount Royal Kantorei marks Remembrance Day, and the centenary of the end of the First World War, with an evening concert and commemoration featuring The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins. With added depth of the Calgary Youth Orchestra, Kantorei joins forces with special guest choir Cum Vino Cantus, for over 120 voices raised together for a powerful rendition of this moving work about destruction and hope.
