September is hands-down one of our favourite months of the year. Not only because school starts again, but September offers great weather, an abundance of fresh local produce, and the apples… oh, those apples! We also see so many amazing events in September.
Here is our month-at-a-glance which highlights some of the family-friendly events in September and if you are looking for upcoming events, the Family Fun Halifax calendar is continually being updated with the latest news. Halifax Fringe Festival (August 28 – September 8): The Halifax Fringe Festival is an annual performing arts festival that is in it’s 34th year. The Fringe includes theatre, music, circus, dance, comedy, education, and more!
Halifax Lebanese Festival (September 6-8): This fun festival offers delicious Lebanese food, live entertainment, performances, and various activities for the whole family to enjoy. Admission to the festival is FREE, and they have something for everyone!
Halifax Colour Festival (September 8): Get colourful at the 10th annual Halifax Colour Festival! The kids will have a ton of fun celebrating by throwing and chasing each other with non-allergenic biodegradable powdered colours.
Open Street Halifax (September 8): Halifax Open Street is back! Agricola Street will be closing down on Sunday, September 8h. There will be lots to discover and explore across the city including, food trucks, music, games and family-friendly activities.
Atlantic Open Farm Day (September 15): Have you ever wondered which local products are produced at Nova Scotia farms? Are your kids curious to learn where their food comes from? Open Farm Day creates the opportunity for you to visit local farms to share stories, ask questions, get involved and meet the farmers.
Nova Scotia Symphony Week (September 15-22): Symphony Nova Scotia kicks off the season with the 17th annual Symphony Week, full of free concerts for all ages, both online and throughout the region. Performances include many genres, from children’s music to orchestral concerts featuring the entire Symphony.
Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival (September 17-October 14): Watch the beautiful town of Mahone Bay come to life with over 250 hand-made, life-size scarecrows. With pumpkin patches, kids activities and more, this is the perfect event to help you celebrate the joys of this magical season.
Treat Accessibly Halloween Village (September 29): It’s free! All kids and parents, with and without disabilities are invited for an accessible traditional trick-or-treating experience that makes inclusion the sweetest part!
