Calgary Zoo Zoolights – click for detailed info

Lions’ Festival of Lights

The Lions’ Festival of Lights is the largest free drive-by Christmas lights showcase in Calgary. For three decades (this is the 30th anniversary!), Calgarians have enjoyed this spectacular light display at the SE corner of Confederation Park. The display features over 105,000 lights (98% LED) to get you in the holiday spirit. Whether you drive by it every day or once in a while, it’s a Calgary Christmas tradition that never fails to delight!

When: November 26, 2016 to January 8, 2017

Airdrie Festival of Lights (With Ride-On Mini Trains!)

Head out to Airdrie for the city’s annual festival of lights from December 1st to 31st. The event features beautiful Christmas lights, two miniature trains to ride, hot chocolate, bonfires, and much more. Santa visits on selected dates; check the calendar to see exactly what nights he’ll be joining in the fun, plus other special events that happen during the festival!

This is a volunteer-run event, so if you have a little spare time and want to spend it in a happy, festive environment – check out their volunteer opportunities!

Nose Creek Pond is located within the festival area and is a great place to skate outdoors when conditions permit. Don’t forget to check out the Christmas Eve Carols Around the Campfire!

Christmas Lights at Spruce Meadows

Once the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market wraps up for the year, you may be thinking there’s no more reason to visit Spruce Meadows this season. Wrong! Bring the whole family between December 10th and January 8th for their amazing Christmas light display. Don’t worry if it’s really cold out, or the kids are getting a little drowsy, as you will stay in your vehicle for the 2 km drive through the Spruce Meadows grounds. The grounds are beautifully decked out with a quarter of a million sparkling holiday lights. It’s truly magical and completely free.

For extra cheer, bring some holiday tunes to play in the car as you take in the spectacle. Bring your skates along for free skating on the pond, surrounded by beautiful lights. Step out of your car to enjoy a hot chocolate or coffee together with a pastry in the warm comfort of the Founders Plaza each evening during the Christmas Lights (5 – 8 pm).

Legacy Christmas Light Parade

During the month of December, Calgary’s Community of the Year – Legacy – hosts their 2nd annual family-friendly Christmas light parade, featuring over 80,000 lights! For some classic winter fun drive, through the entire community to experience the tunnels of lights, Christmas displays and an outdoor skating rink! The community’s 22 show homes have been decked out in lights for the holidays welcoming one and all for some Christmas cheer. Toy Mountain donations can also be made at the Calbridge show homes.

Downtown Calgary

We have a beautiful downtown, and the office towers definitely do it up right with lots of lights! Head downtown and go for a wander. Don’t miss Stephen Avenue, Olympic Plaza, the McDougall Centre and CORE’s 45-foot-tall Christmas tree!
