As a kid, June was my all-time favourite month. The weather was getting warm, the days were so long, and the tantalizing possibilities of summer stretched out gloriously before me. Okay, so some things have changed. Now June is a mad, chaotic dash with all the people in my house trying to finish up all the things before summer. The goal in June is now to survive. Adding to my feeling of “too busy!” are all the great events that start happing in June! (So how do you not still love June?) Wishing you all the best of this month!
Come see all the adorable babies during the Kayben Farms’ Barn Babies weekend from June 2 – 3. It was a long, long winter, so this is the perfect event to celebrate the new life of spring (and have a great family day, too)!
June means lilacs in Calgary – even if only for a very short window. Head down to the 4th Street Lilac Festival on June 3 for blocks of great vendors plus plenty of fantastic entertainment. Look for the bouncy castle for the kids and Food Truck Lane, among other great attractions.
Also on June 3rd is BMX Bike Day! This is the day where anyone aged 4 and up can come out and try the great sport of BMX bike racing for FREE. The only requirement is that riders must wear long-sleeved shirts and pants to participate, and decent shoes and cycling gloves are recommended.
Country Hills Village Shopping Centre is a one-stop shop for getting all your errands done (hooray!) and if you haven’t been to the shopping centre lately, come check it out on June 9th for the Global Wellness Day event! Global Wellness Day is a worldwide social project dedicated to living well. From 1 – 4 pm, under a tent in the parking lot, the shopping centre is offering activities to the public for FREE.

If you haven’t seen the TELUS Spark Whales|Tohora exhibit, this is your last chance! The exhibit houses one of the world’s largest whale collections from the National Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and will immerse you in the biological diversity, evolution, and significance of whales to Māori culture and the indigenous people of New Zealand. It’s packing up on June 20th.

Century Downs is presenting the Western Regional Driving Championship. Cheer on your favourite driver on June 23 as he competes to earn the title of Regional Driving Champion and move on to the 2018 National Driving Championship! This family event is FREE.
