Summer days deserve to be lazy, hazy and unstructured. But sometimes we need a direction for our languor. Here are 20 ways to have fun with the family!

1. Spend a rainy day indoors exploring your local Devonian gardens. None in your city? A large garden centre can provide an oasis in a pinch!

2. Explore art at a Museum.

3. Pack a picnic and spend an entire day at your local splash pad, wading pool or water park.

4. Get friendly with some farm animals

5. Fall in love with the theatre at a local performance of Shakespeare in the Park.

6. Spend a day go-carting

7. Take advantage of the Kids Bowl for Free program and improve your game.

8. Or hit the links! Introduce your kids to the game of golf at a participating golf course with Take a Kid to the Golf Course week!

9. Go fishing! By the river, on a lake or at a stocked catch & release pond. Don’t fish? Skip stones!

10. Visit a city’s Farmers Market and make a feast out of your fresh finds.

11. Try to hit as many food trucks as you can. Keep notes and get everyone in your family to vote for their favourite at the end of the summer.

17. Keep your eyes peeled for show ‘n’ shines both in the city and in surrounding communities. Both kids and parents love looking at classic cars!

18. How much ice cream can you eat in one summer? Walk or bike to your favourite place as an after dinner treat.

19. Test your engineering skills with the building materials at a Science Centre

20. Reserve a picnic area and have a big family party at one of your town’s public parks.
