APEGA, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta, was formed over a hundred years ago to regulate the practices of engineering and geoscience in Alberta. But more importantly for parents, they are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of geoscientists and engineers. From kindergarten to grade 12, APEGA’s activities offer exciting ways for kids to explore science, technology, engineering, and math in interactive, unforgettable ways.
APEGA’s affordable events, like the APEGA Science Olympics, offer hands-on exploration. Through experiential learning, students discover how geoscience and engineering affect every life. These practical and immersive experiences also help students develop essential skills like teamwork, communication, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. These events align with learning outcomes from Alberta Education.
APEGA Science Olympics
How do we lift large amounts of sand or water? What goes into designing an amusement park ride? These are questions that kids can use creativity to solve. The APEGA Science Olympics are exciting, inter-school events where participants tackle real-world challenges, test their ideas, and discover the fun of engineering and geoscience—with guidance from real engineers and geoscientists. Look for the Science Olympics registration in early fall.
Elementary Science Nights
Elementary Science Nights are subject to volunteer availability, but they offer an evening of engaging, science fun. Organized by APEGA’s local branches, Science Nights bring hands-on activities and demonstrations to enhance science concepts taught in school.
