Do you remember school library day? It was always my favorite day of the week. I loved how that unique scent of old books and dry air wafted over me as I walked through the doors. I sat on the carpet mesmerized as the librarian read us something special and then rushed to chose a few new treasures, curling up in a chair until the rest of the class finished. Although I don’t read as much as I used to (and certainly not as much as I’d like to), there is still nothing like walking through the doors of a library and seeing all the new worlds, exciting characters and possibilities laid out on those shelves.
Since I’m feeling nostalgic for books today, I’m declaring it Library day. Here are a few picks for parents and kids!
The Adventures of Hope is a charming new Ebook by Steven Mais. Although you won’t get the satisfaction of turning real pages, you’ll certainly appreciate having a sweet story to read in a quiet moment or on the go!
Mmm home cooking! Even though I get a lot of recipes online, I still love flipping through cookbooks for inspiration. Bobby Deen’s Everyday Eats: 120 All-New Recipes, All Under 350 Calories, All Under 30 Minutes is full of down home but low cal yumminess.
Fairy tales revisited. It’s Not About the Beanstalk! is based on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and is just one in a series by Veronika Martenova Charles written with new readers in mind. A good story, easy phrasing and lots of great pictures will help newer readers have fun while improving their reading skills.
The Chase: A Novel by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg is not deep literature, it’s brain candy. This is an easy and entertaining read, perfect for a road trip, plane ride or the bathtub!
