Opening dates vary, but the May long weekend is a big one, so forget camping, stay in town, and have some fun! Butterfield Acres | Opens April 21, 2025

There’s so much to do at Butterfield Acres, especially if your children love animals. Come for a visit with the goats, sheep, or bunnies. Take a pony ride and listen to what a donkey’s hee-haw really sounds like. Many of the animals can be visited right in their pens or through the fence for the larger ones. Learning about the animals through the seasons can offer valuable lessons for kids, from love and respect to interesting facts. Make it easy and affordable to visit often by purchasing a season pass!

Granary Road | Opens May 1, 2025

Only a short drive from south Calgary, through picturesque, rolling hills, is Granary Road: a family attraction that has something for everyone. With a large public market, a bakery, restaurant and lounge, and a mini golf course, families can make the short drive and enjoy this dining and entertainment venue for the day. But the best part is the themed active learning park that encompasses 37 acres! As Granary Road declares, this is where friends and family come together to enjoy the good things in life!

Calgary Farmyard | Opens May 16, 2025

What can you do as a family that is amusing for everyone, keeps the kids active, and lets you enjoy the great outdoors? Head down to the Calgary Farmyard! The Calgary Farmyard is one of Alberta’s favourite destinations for agri-fun. With many engaging activities, there’s enough going on to keep the whole family interested, and perhaps more importantly, offers enough space for kids to burn some of their remarkable energy.

Calaway Park | Opens May 17, 2025

Calaway Park is Western Canada’s Largest Outdoor Family Amusement Park. The park opened in 1982 and has grown from a small amusement park to one of Calgary’s best attractions. The park has a collection of 32 rides and 19 midway games, plus live entertainment, the Cinemagic 3D theatre, the Haunted Hotel, and the CP Spray n’ Play splash pad. It’s fun for the whole family with numerous attractions, top-notch entertainment, and rides for your wee ones right up through full-sized thrill-seekers.

Cobb’s Adventure Park | Opens May 17, 2025

Cobb’s Adventure Park is farm fun for city kids! It’s home to a variety of activities, like the Kangaroo Petting Zoo, pedal carts, outdoor games, a giant slide, tractor rides, blacklight mini-golf, and lots more. They are open all summer, beginning on the May long weekend.

Heritage Park | Opens May 17, 2025

This summer, it’s time to take a break and make some memories. A destination like Heritage Park, right here in Calgary, makes it easy! Are you interested in ‘time travel’ or fascinated by vehicles? Perhaps your kids (or you!) love to go on rides. Maybe you want to find unique shopping, catch a concert, and enjoy dinner. With special events and everyday amusement, there’s something for every family as Heritage Park has tons going on all summer long!

Iron Horse Park | May 18, 2025

Do you have a child who loves trains? Then you need to know about Iron Horse Park in Airdrie! This park is all about miniature trains that represent the Canadian Pacific Railway in the west. You can ride a 1/8th scale diesel or steam locomotive through tunnels and over bridges.

Outdoor Pools | Normally Opens Father’s Day Weekend (TBC)

When the weather gets hot, there’s nothing nicer than taking a refreshing dip (or an extended frolic) in an outdoor pool. Calgary’s outdoor pools usually open around Father’s Day. Stay tuned, though, as we haven’t heard anything yet for 2025.

Bar U Ranch | Opens May 12, 2025

The Bar U Ranch is one of the most famous ranches in the area and a great destination for a day trip (or as a stop along the Cowboy Trail). The site commemorates the history and importance of ranching in Canada and is open for visits during the summer months. Learn about old-style ranching and be a cowboy from yesterday.

Discovery Canyon | Opens June 1, 2025

Go for a drive, and on a beautiful day in the Red Deer area, check out Discovery Canyon, with wonderful, outdoor water play. With a lazy river and a beach area, there’s something for everyone! This free area features natural river-fed bubbling pools of water, tubing, a wading pool, picnic tables, concession, washrooms, and a nature-themed playground. Admission is FREE, and you can rent tubes for $6. It’s a day filled with water play, summer sun, and family memories.

Canyon Ski Resort | Opens June 7 – 21, 2025

The Canyon Ski Resort gives you a reason to head to Red Deer this summer! There’s a family adventure to enjoy, with the Alpine Roller Coaster, the Adventure Park, and Summer Tubing. The Alpine Roller Coaster opens on June 7, 2025. The Adventure Park opens on June 14, 2025, and Summer Tubing opens on June 21, 2025.

Sylvan Lake Aqua Splash | Opens June 14, 2025

Check out the Wibit inflatable obstacle park at Sylvan Lake, Alberta! The Sylvan Lake Aqua Splash is the biggest water fun at the lake, as Wild Rapids waterslides closed in 2016. An obstacle course on the lake is sure to provide excitement and laughter for everyone!
