There is nothing my kids like more in the mornings, than rolling out of bed and vegging in front of the TV watching their favorite cartoons.

There is nothing I find more frustrating than having to cajole, plead and finally yell at them to pry their lazy bones away from the TV and come eat breakfast, get dressed and brush their teeth. This year, it got so bad that by December I had totally banned morning TV on weekdays. Presto they became a lot easier to handle in the mornings and we were able to get out the door on time.

But school’s out for summer and morning TV is back on the agenda. And since we don’t have any camps or lessons scheduled in the mornings, it’s a special treat for them (plus peace & quiet for me!).

I was pretty pumped to see that Disney Jr is showing morning marathons all summer long! This week’s schedule included Jake and the Never Land Pirates on Monday, Doc McStuffins on Tuesday, Special Agent Oso on Wednesday, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse today (Thursday) and Tickety Toc tomorrow (Friday). All shows start at 8 am Eastern time. They also have special Monday night programming including a new episode of a favorite show followed by a special featured presentation movie if you’d prefer down time in the evening!

And so it works out that my kids get to enjoy nice lazy summer mornings, and I get to enjoy some nice quiet time. When the marathon is over and it’s time to play outside, they have lots of new great scenarios to reenact with their toys and friends. I love it when we can find a nice balance between screen time and playing.
