As a dad, I often struggle with how to properly discipline my son. I do my best to be loving and modern dad, fighting off the urge to kick it old school like my dad did in regards to spanking, threatening and frightening my children into submission. It’s even more difficult to find the proper balance when it comes to dealing with the other kids in the neighborhood. While every dad wants to be the “Fun Dad”, sometimes it is so much easier to be feared and respected, ensuring that the rug rats don’t walk all over you. David Eddie’s article for the Globe and Mail addresses the situation well, if a little on the old school side.
