My cab driver checks his watch and decides it’s too early for rush hour traffic, and wonders aloud what all the traffic is about. “Construction season!” I suggest. Where I’m from, the old joke goes, there are two seasons: winter and construction. “This is Southern California!” he chuckles. “We don’t have that here!”

I think I will move here.

Because up in the Great White North, here comes autumn. Sure it’s still beautiful out in early September, but you know what’s coming. Brrrr. It’s not pretty. Why not extend your summer a little longer with a visit to San Diego?

And to sweeten the deal? A whole slew of attractions and activities, restaurants and hotels that roll out the red carpet for families in October with Kids Free San Diego!  Over 130 world-class attractions, hotels and restaurants are welcoming families by offering free admission and special deals for kids. Note that each offer has specific rules in order to qualify for the kids free promotion. For almost all of the offers, an adult purchase must be made in order to receive the discount for the child.

Discover for yourself why San Diego is called “America’s Finest City!” this October:

Visit some dolphins at SeaWorld and learn more about their care and training.

Do!

Most of the big attractions around town are participating in Kids Free San Diego, and you can score free kids entrance (with the purchase of an adult admission) to the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Safari Park, and at LEGOLand (this is a promotion that ran through the summer as well.) At SeaWorld San Diego you can also get a free single day admission for each child (ages 3 to 9) per each one full-paid adult ticket.

It’s also a great opportunity to explore some of the other great San Diego attractions. You can visit the Gaslamp Museum, the Tijuana Estuary Visitors Center, or help solve a mystery at Murder n Mayhem! Take your time planning, there is so much you won’t want to miss!

In 2019 LEGOLAND California Resort is celebrating its 20th birthday and offering free admission for kids, ages 2-12, with one paid adult admission. Kids can party down in the toddler-geared DUPLO Playtown play area, race down the Riptide Racers water slide in the LEGOLAND Water Park (open weekends) and take a dive on the LEGO CITY: Deep Sea Adventure submarine ride.

Kids Free San Diego Ride Belmont Park

Belmont Park is right on Mission Beach. If you can catch the view from the top of the roller coaster, it would be amazing!

Ride!

In addition to the amusement rides you will find at SeaWorld and LEGOLand, kids can get their ride on in a few different ways this October. The seaside amusement park of Belmont Park on Mission Beach is offering free ride and play deals for kids if you are looking for thrill rides, but if boat rides are more your thing, there are several companies offering sightseeing tours as well! Ride the waves with a surf lesson, ride a gondola, ride a rented bike…the choice is up to you!

Kids Free San Diego eat!

Eat!

You can plan your trip that you will never have to pay for your child’s meal, and you will never eat at the same restaurant twice. Between the hotels offering free children’s menu items (check the site, many of the offers are not exclusive to guests staying at the hotel!) and the restaurants doing the same, you can get a sample of many of the fun restaurants in San Diego.

Kids Free San Diego Mission Beach

After all your activities, take some time for the beach! This one is Mission Beach and it is lovely.

Stay!

Book one of the great hotels taking part in Kids Free San Diego, and be welcomed by a sweet gift for the littlest travellers on arrival. At the Paradise Point, kids score a $50 resort credit that can be used towards ice cream, bike rentals, pool toys and more! Many of the hotels also offer kids eat free promotion.

If you are thinking of a trip to San Diego, think about going during Kids Free San Diego in October! You get an extra taste of summer, plus the non-stop fun of great attractions, amazing places to eat and peaceful hotels to rest your weary heads after a full day of fun.
