Spring is a capricious mistress in Calgary. But April is always filled with the hope of things to come. Plus, it’s easier to head to the playground when you don’t have to bundle up so much! Sidewalks are ready for biking and it’s time to get out and play, or maybe get those gardens ready. Whatever the weather, check out some fun things to do in Calgary during April 2019.
The Canada Sports Hall of Fame, over at WinSport, is offering free admission on the first Wednesday evening of the month. They are presenting Who’s in the Hall Wednesdays. Besides free admission, there will be a cash bar, fun interactives, and a speakers series.
Heritage Park always has fun stuff going on, even when they’re not fully open for the season! Right now they are running a limited number of Ghost Tours and there’s even an option for a family-friendly tour that’s shorter and earlier. If that’s not for you, families with older kids might enjoy the Heritage Park Dinner and a Movie, with a classic film and a special menu to go with the movie. This month there are two movie options: Emma or A League of Their Own. Gasoline Alley is also turning TEN on April 6 and there will be free admission and special activities.
Would-be grads can head to Marlborough Mall this month to find a gently used grad dress for only $10 at Gowntown. (Dress donations are accepted until April 5.)
Get ready for Stampede with Aggie Days! This free event brings the country to the city with interactive agriculture activities including cow milking, sheep shearing, farm animals, corn maze, and much more. Find out where your food comes from and see real farm animals.
Calgary Poutine Week is in April. And it’s in support of Mealshare. That’s all I need to know.
Little ones can head to Butterfield Acres to help out the Easter Bunny on a legendary egg hunt! Perfect for kids under six, children help find items that the Easter Bunny needs to make Easter eggs and then receive a treat, as well as a pot of soil and some quick-growing seeds.
Mid-April brings us SUPERTRAIN! This is Canada’s biggest and best model train show with wonderful displays and activities for all ages. Imagine over 60,000 sq. ft. of scale model trains, Lego and Thomas trains, model building demonstrations, historical associations, railroad art, hobby shops, manufacturers, and much more.
It’s almost Easter and that means it’s almost time for the Calgary Zoo Easter Eggstravaganza! With a variety of fun zones to celebrate spring fun, kids will love the face painting, sweet treats, arts and crafts, and more.
The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo is coming this April, celebrating all things pop culture, including comics, sci-fi, gaming, fantasy, horror, and more. Don’t forget to check out the free POW! Parade of Wonders that kicks it all off.
Last but not least, the Calgary Pet Expo will be at Spruce Meadows at the end of April. It’s not just for dogs and cats, but you’ll find everything pet here, from puppies to birds to other exotic pets.
