How is your summer going? It’s been a roller coaster of a year, no matter how you look at it. There are quite a few fun family things happening, though, so keep reading and check out our post on 100 Things to do This Summer. Throw in a few visits to our great Calgary attractions and the local pools and parks and you can find lots to keep your family busy.

The August long weekend is such a great time to kick back and enjoy summer. There are a few events going on in the city on Heritage Day, which is the holiday Monday. See what’s happening here.

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is the biggest show in Calgary this summer. It’s a chance to engage the senses and immerse yourself in the creative works of Vincent Van Gogh, from July 30 – August 29, 2021.

Make the most of summer nights with outdoor movies this August! We’re trying to find all the family-friendly outdoor movie experiences and will post them in our guide. They seem to be mostly drive-in movies right now.

Head to the river this August for fun and relaxing adventures rafting. If you’ve never been, you can get started with this article and then read about our experience with Lazy Day Raft Rentals. (Spoiler alert: it was great.)

Find a night market in Calgary and make the most of the lovely summer evenings. Heritage Park is bringing back Market Nights, with local products and great food and atmosphere on Fridays and Saturdays, August 6 – September 4, 2021 (excluding August 20 – 21, 2021).

Create Kids Fest is Calgary’s Children’s Festival and it’s happening in person on August 14, 2021. Create Kids’ Fest is an interactive, multidisciplinary festival for families that provides opportunities for the audience to engage with fine arts, explore the process of creation, and experience special moments that will be cherished for years to come.

Get out of the city with Alberta Open Farm Days. From August 14 – 15, 2021, farmers and ranchers inviting their urban and rural neighbours to stop in for a visit to share stories, see demonstrations, and learn more about the farmers who grow their food.

Experience rural life in a different way, with the Priddis and Millarville Country Fair. It won’t have quite as many activities as “regular” years, but you’ll find lots to enjoy from August 21 – 22, 2021. Plus, it’s free this year.

From August 19 – 28, 2021, appreciate the explosive Globalfest, with its amazing fireworks and cultural opportunities. Enjoy food vendors, cultural performances, and of course, the fireworks. Taking place over 5 nights, the entertainment will be outstanding every time.

End your summer with The Military Museums Summer Skirmish. Come out to watch as 2000 years of warfare comes to life in a weekend of scripted battle re-enactments and demonstrations on August 28 – 29, 2021.
