The Mother of the Year Award 2013 is officially safe from this mom…

That’s right folks, there is a little less competition this morning after I failed spectacularly yesterday.

What did I do?

Drove my son to his classmate’s birthday party at 3 pm; which is when it ended.

Disappointed my kid, hurt the feelings of the birthday boy and put out another mother who worked hard on the party.

And it wouldn’t be so bad except this is the 2nd time in as many months that I have done this. The first time I realized that I had forgotten the party my daughter was supposed to be at about 15 minutes before it was scheduled to end…

So clearly I need to work on my organizational skills such as inputting the correct time into my phone’s calendar…

Thankfully, my son is soooo easygoing, and the other mom was very gracious. Although they were expecting family to visit shortly, they took the time to play a short game with my son, then he was able to watch the birthday boy open his gift, was extremely pleased to get his goodie bag in return, and a donut to boot! When we got home, he got some video game time (to assuage the mommy guilt) which also pleased him immensely. He told me “Mommy, I had a good time at the short party”. Talk about making momma’s heart melt… 🙂

Have you ever made a mistake with your kid’s schedule for parties or playdates? How did you deal with it?
