Snowbear’s Christmas Countdown

Posted on: December 13, 2013

Snowbear’s Christmas Countdown (words and pictures by Theresa Smythe) quickly became a favourite in our house.  The beautiful cut-paper collage illustrations make the pages great fun for the kids. Each day Snowbear does something new to prepare for Christmas.  On day 9 he gets a new tree; we were miraculously

When visiting England, a day in Shakespeare country is a must.  We hopped aboard a double decker bus for an hour long journey to Stratford-Upon-Avon.  Upon our arrival we managed to cajole the kids into wandering a bit of the town.  Thank heavens a good friend lent us her stroller

The Fun is more than Miniature at Bekonscot Model Village

Diggerland needs to come to Canada!  What a blast!  We braved the 2+ hour drive to take the boys to Diggerland.  Apart from a visit to the Diggerland website and a survey of Trip Advisor comments, we didn’t know what to expect.  Our expectations were more than exceeded. The kids

A Morning at Stonehenge

Posted on: August 28, 2013

When planning our trip to England I knew I wanted to show my boys Stonehenge.  I recognize at ages 2 & 4 they aren’t capable of comprehending the true significance of a 5,000 year old monument.  However, since we had traveled 7,500kms from Vancouver to England, I figured the additional

Night Light

Posted on: August 23, 2013

Night Light (published by Scholatic Canada) is a fun, engaging book that appeals to a variety of young ages.  The images are bright and colourful, the concept is simple yet very clever, and there are machines!  In my kids’ eyes, if there are machines the book is a chart-topping success! Night

24 Hours in London, England, Family Style!

We brought our kids to England for a summer holiday.  Despite my all-consuming terror of a mid-air meltdown by my children, everything went incredibly well.  Thank you Gravol!  We have been fortunate enough to stay with family and have used England’s fantastic transit system to get us to our desired

Family Travel: Seattle Day 1

Posted on: June 25, 2013

This year, for Father’s Day weekend, we took a trip down to Seattle. Three and a half years ago, when our eldest just turned one, we attempted the same trip.  To say it was a disaster would be an understatement. Imagine a baby screaming for the entire 2.5 hour drive,
