I know, I know, winter is not actually over yet. But things start to feel hopeful in March, right? The calendar does insist that spring is coming. Even in Calgary. The evenings get longer (too bad we have to lose an hour of sleep for that – but at least when any littles get up at 5 am that weekend, it will look like 6 am). The weather could start warming up, in theory, anyway. And many schools have a week off! Check out some fun things to do in Calgary during March 2018.
Calgary Young People’s Theatre is presenting Peter Pan from March 1 – 10. Pirates, mermaids, and a boy who never wants to grow up? I love the story of Peter Pan. What’s not to like with this kind of adventure?!
Spring break is right around the corner. If you’re looking for a more structured plan for the week off, we’re working hard on building a convenient guide to spring break camp ideas in Calgary this year. Even if you don’t have to work, sometimes camp is just plain fun.
How about a trip to the mountains? Banff Gondola is offering Family Weekends this March with great activities at their new interpretive centre. Enjoy the views, a scavenger hunt, fire pits, and more. The best part: come before noon and kids are free, plus, Alberta residents get 25% off anytime!
Have you been inspired to get fit by the Olympics?! (During the Olympics I’m always torn between inspiration for a healthy life and sitting on the couch, watching the Olympics and eating licorice. The struggle is real.) Or do your New Year’s Resolutions need a little help? Oxygen Yoga and Fitness is offering free trials of their classes from March 12 – 18.
The Red & White Calgary Comic & Toy Expo is taking place on March 11 at McMahon Stadium. Plan a costume for the contest (not just for kids!), enter to win great prizes, and enjoy comics, toys, and games for all ages!
Spruce Meadows is warming up for the season! The Winter Farewell takes place March 8 – 11 and the Spring Welcome is March 15 – 18. Don’t worry about the weather, both of these events take place indoors.
From March 18 – 20, Earth Science for Society is holding free, family-friendly event where you can visit four themed pavilions including Energy for Us, Resources and You, One Dynamic Earth and Our Future! Hands-on, interactive exhibits demonstrate the importance of the Earth Sciences in our everyday lives.
Come claim the luck of the Irish and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Calgary Farmers Market. You can enjoy live entertainment like fiddlers and Irish dancers, plus guess how many coins fill the pot of gold to win $100 in Market Bucks!
March 24th is Earth Hour! You can take part at home, of course, OR you could head down to St. Patrick’s Island for Calgary Unplugged, a fun event where we can raise environmental awareness together with games, hot chocolate, and bike-powered music and lights.
Oh, spring break, I love you. Whether or not you feel the same, our list of things to do in Calgary over the spring break will help you make the most of the break (or at least survive?) We’ve compiled events for both the CBE and CSSD breaks.
